Too Many Choices

by KarenH on April 26, 2009

It can be challenging to get a great gift idea for a great friend, But one of the easiest ways to narrow down the choices in a gift is to look up the recipients birthstone and color. While there is some disagreement as to the exact gems, this chart is pretty well accepted:

January – Garnet (deep red)
February – Amethyst (lavender)
March – Aquamarine (light blue)
April – Diamond (clear)
May – Emerald (deep green)
June – Smoky Quartz (grayish brown)
July – Ruby (red)
August – Peridot (green)
September – Sapphire (blue)
October – Pink Tourmaline (light pink)
November – Citrine (yellow)
December – Blue Topaz (teal)

Most artisans are familiar with this chart as well and if they don’t have ready made goods available in these colors/gems, many will be happy to fill a custom order.

Uniqueness and Replicatability

by Deborah on April 8, 2009

As crafters we are making things that really are unique and one of a kind, but we want the process to be replicable and work over and over again. But in the search for duplicability we need to not overlook the gold nuggets that we may produce by accident that may not be able to be made ever again, even by following the exact same “recipe” the next time.
